COMPETITION RULES

1. Registration works on a first come, first serve basis
2. All birthdates are calculated as of January 1st, 2022
3. Each routine’s division will be determined by the age average (drop the decimal)
4. A signed waiver must be submitted for each dancer during registration by e-mail
5. A studio staff list must be submitted during registration by e-mail
6. All payments will be accepted by cheque to Showdown Dance Competition by mail or e-transfer to showdowndancecomp@gmail.com
7. All accepted changes made after the registration deadline will be charged a $15 processing fee
8. All props must be approved by Showdown Dance Competition and respect a 30 second time limit for set up and tear down
9. All big props must be dropped off during the designated prop drop off time listed in the competition schedule
10. Registered studio staff will receive an all access pass for the weekend, which includes a seat to watch Finals:The Showdown. Please note, registered
chaperones will receive a basic access pass for the weekend. They will need to purchase a ticket to Finals: The Showdown if they would like to attend
11. Directors, teachers and chaperones must sign in at the registration desk upon initial arrival
12. Schedule changes and missed performances during the competition will be handled by the backstage manager
• A missed routine without warning must be authorized the opportunity to dance again by the
backstage manager. In any circumstance, the routine will not be eligible for overalls or finals
• An incomplete routine must be authorized the opportunity to dance again by the
backstage manager and will automatically be deducted 5 points
• Any schedule changes on site must be approved by the backstage manager. If the change involves
the routine performing after the announcements for overalls in their category, they automatically
cannot qualify
13. Adult, semi pro and pro routines are not eligible to win the cash awards at Finals: The Showdown
14. All routines over the respective time limit will be disqualified
15. Please limit the use of scented or powder hair products
16. Top Routine Per Style, Top Semi-Pro/Pro Routine, Top Choreography Award and Top Costume Award will be announced at Finals: The Showdown. Any
routine, even those not competing in Finals: The Showdown, is eligible.
17. A studio cannot occupy more than 50% of a category at Finals: The Showdown
18. Studio staff are not permitted to prompt dancers in the wings
19. Novice routines are not eligible for Finals: The Showdown as they will have their own overall award ceremony.
20. A studio must be submit more than 10 routines to be eligible for cash prizes at Finals: The Showdown.
21. When an adult (19+) is present in a group routine, the routine will automatically be placed in the adult category

DANCERS

22. Studio directors will provide each dancer with a competition bracelet for backstage access
23. One dancer per routine should assume the responsibility of retrieving the medals
24. Dancers must be ready 45 minutes prior to their performance as the competition reserves the
right to run ahead of schedule
25. Dancers must sign in with the backstage manager 4 routines prior to their performance
26. Dancers must be available for adjudication 1 hour prior to the estimated time
27. Dancers who are not selected for The Showdown must purchase a ticket in order to be a spectator

POLICIES

1. Showdown Dance Competition is not responsible for the following:
• Cancellations due to weather or uncontrollable conditions
• Damage, loss of stolen property or injuries
• Additional fees such as parking fees and/or tickets
2. The following actions will lead to disqualification:
• Inappropriate behaviour, which includes but is not limited to property destruction and unreasonable commentary
• Videotaping and photography in the theatre
• Unsuitable movement, content, music or costuming
• Time limit
3. Based on the number of participants, the following could change:
• Number of days of the event
4. Refunds will be issued for:
• Doctors note provided by a dancer prior to the competition (70% refund) for dancer only
• Should the competition be cancelled due to a global pandemic or force majeur, a 70% refund and 30% credit will be issued
5. Late fees are subject to a 20% increase

Line (15-19) 4:00 max
Extended Line (20-29) 5:00 max
Production (30+) 8:00 max

MUSIC

  • Music will be submitted by Drop Box by March 5th 2020. We will email instructions once we have the final schedule
  • The music naming format is as follows: ID-ROUTINE NAME-SCHOOL CODE
  • Music must me MP3 format
  • Upon registering at The Showdown Dance Competition while entering the event, a backup USB must be submitted with the studio’s school code clearly indicated on the USB at the registration booth
  • All routine names submitted are final.

SCHEDULE

  • Directors will be provided with a 1st & 2nd draft of the performance schedule to provide a reasonable input on scheduling
  • A final draft of the competition schedule will be provided no later than 2 weeks prior to the event

PAYMENT

  • Payments will be made by cheque to Showdown Dance Competition
  • A refund will be allotted under the following conditions:
    • Doctors note provided by a dancer 3 weeks prior to the competition (50% refund)

FINALS: THE SHOWDOWN

  • Qualifying routines will be eligible in competing at Finals Sunday night
